Understanding title status
US law requires sellers to disclose a vehicle's title brand. Dov Auto displays it prominently on every listing — on the card and again on the lot page — so you decide with eyes open.
Title brands vary by state and carry different insurance and registration implications. A branded lot can still be a smart buy for the right buyer. The mistake is bidding before you understand the brand.
Clean title
No significant damage history reported as a branded total loss. Still review mileage, inspection notes, and photos — clean does not mean perfect.
Salvage title
Declared a total loss by an insurer — typically damage, theft recovery, or flood. Usually not road-legal until repaired and re-inspected under state rules.
Rebuilt / reconstructed
A salvage vehicle that was repaired and passed a state inspection to return to the road. History still affects value, insurance, and some buyer preferences.
Flood title
Sustained water damage significant enough to be branded. May carry hidden electrical and corrosion risks long after the water is gone.
Lemon / manufacturer buyback
Repurchased by a manufacturer under a state lemon law due to recurring defects that could not be repaired to standard.
Buyer responsibility
- Read the brand before you raise — not after you win
- Consider an independent inspection on branded-title vehicles
- Confirm insurance and registration rules in your state
- Ask the Title Desk if anything in the lot file is unclear
